How about this. The News is right on time this month. The “Old Man” is getting better. First things first. Our Company Captain, Sean “Pez” Brennen, is a Probie all over again. Pez was sworn in as a new recruit in the F.D.N.Y. last Monday January 9 th . Right now he's going thru 13 weeks of Probie School . We offer our congratulations to him and best wishes in his new career, and I am sure by the time he retires he'll be at least a Captain of his own Company in the F.D.N.Y. Last month the Company helped out at the annual Christmas sale at Dee 's nursery. We served hot cider and cookies to the many customers that came thru to see Santa and buy Holiday decorations. Matt Lewis put in many hours over there and at the January Company meeting, the Captain, commended him for the time he put in. Our 100 th . Anniversary is just around the corner and the committee is putting the final touches on plans for the celebration. The Department responded to 1529 calls for assistance in 2005. That number is up over 100 from 2004. Our Company responded to 609 alarms during this period. Both former Chiefs Pfirmann and Traverso are mending nicely and Chief Traverso should be back racing me to seat of 246 shortly. Good thing that Chief Pfirmann is out in California or I'd most probably have to race him too. Department Installation dinner is coming up at the end of the month, and I understand that Ex-Captain Ron Deardoff won't be able to attend this year. Always look forward to seeing Ron when he fly's in from Las Vegas . We go way back and Ron and I were Captain's together in 1970 when he was still a member of the Rescue Company. FLASH ! FLASH ! News from the “Big Room “ A.K.A. Board of Fire Commissioners. The bid has been awarded to the American La France Company to build our new Water Rescue truck ( Unit 2462 ) La France is an old and good company and I'm sure the guys will be counting down the days until it arrives. I'll leave you with that piece of good news so until next. Stay Well and Stay Safe and remember “When you train, train like your life depends on it , because it just might”.
Sincerely,
Oceanside Hose Company no. 1
