On February 1 st . the Company had its annual Super Bowl party and all those who attended seemed to enjoy themselves. Will Schieren cooked the chicken wings ,Nicole Maurer brought the “pigs in a blanket” and they both worked on making up a batch of brownies. This writer sure did devour those little hot dogs and a couple of helpings of wings and then several gallons of water (Gosh they were hot.). My only comment is that we have to get some of that brown mustard too. The yellow kind just doesn't seem do it right. Our two Lieutenants, Rich and Pez sure put on a nice party.

We had little snow last week (about 8 inches), so a few of the members loaded up our snow blower on to Support 2462 and went over to Ex-Chief Fred Nickees ' house and removed the snow for him. Fred's the youngster of the Company with 77 years of service. Ex-Chief John Traverso was among the crew and Fred gave him the traditional Ex-Chief's blessing… “John, you finally made it” so now it's official. John's an Ex-Chief.

On Saturday night, February 7 th , the Department had its annual Installation and Inspection Dinner. This year it was held at the Melville Marriot. Though this location is little further than the Uniondale Marriot, I think the extra few miles were well worth it. Everyone I spoke to thought so too. My old 1 st Assistant Chief, Ex-Chief “Red” Robertson and his committee sure did a great job this year. Hose Company's Ex-Captain Jim Garvey served as the Master of Ceremonies and our members on the committee were Ex-Captains Bob Dawson and Pat Madden. This was our newest member, Anthony Martini's first installation dinner and he seemed to be enjoying himself. Ex-Captain Ron Deardoff and his lovely wife Midge flew in from Las Vegas and Chris “Rocky” Marciano drove down from SUNY Binghamton for the occasion. One note: It makes a guy feel a bit old when I observed Midge dancing with her grandson, who is a member of South Side Hose Company 2. Ron and I were Captains together way back in 1970 when Ron was a member of Rescue Company 1.

Some REAL NICE news happenings since last news letter. Ex-Captain Reed Menz and his wife Kathy became Grand Parents for the first time. Reed says he wants his grandson to call him “Duke”. I told Reed, when his grandson starts talking, he'll be called whatever comes out of the mouth. The other good news is that Ex-Captain Bill Leahy was promoted from Detective to Sergeant in the Nassau County PD and is presently attending supervisor's school at the County Academy . Congratulation with the promotion and all I can add is, “you're on your way up.”

February will bring a busy month of training to the Company with “Ice Water Rescue” and “Weapons of Mass Destruction” courses on the calendar.

I guess I've run out of the news for this month, so in closing… Remember…. Stay Well and Stay Safe .

Sincerely,
Ex-Chief Bob Jacoby
