This month we'll cover a little of March and April. In our March meeting we welcomed Tom Hendel into the Company as our newest probationary firefighter. Tom comes to us via our Explorer Post and we all welcome him on board and wish him well. We now have three firefighters on probation which makes it nice for us “old” guys when it comes to “grunt” work around the Company.

Our April meeting was held an hour early so we could get over to the LaParma restaurant for our annual Ex-Captain's dinner. Our guests included Chief Bob Bettes , Ass't Chief Sean Lynch, and Fire Commissioners Paul Napoli and Bill Lynch. Ex-Chief Bob Jacoby gave Ex-Chief Fred Nickees ', who was unable to attend, famous toast and as usual the food was great. This year it should be noted was the 50 th . Anniversary of Fred being Chief of the OFD.

Notes of happenings during the last two months.
Joe (Doc) Dasaro graduated from Paramedic school, and is now, as I understand it, one of only three Paramedics in the Department. Also graduating from EMT school was our Captain, John Madden, and Firefighter Nicole Maurer. We congratulate them all.

Ex-Captain Jim Garvey and wife Barbara became Grandparents again via son Bill and wife Gina. A lovely baby girl with the name of Emma Jean. Jim celebrated by retiring from Con-Edison after 39 years. We all congratulate them on the birth of the new addition into the family and wish Jim many years on the “golf course” in his retirement.

Memorial day is closing in on us ,so Lieutenant Brennan reminded us all that truck clean-up is coming soon ,and would like to see a nice turn out for the parade so we can capture the attendance trophy once again. April 18 th starts the semi-annual mask confidence testing and all class A firefighters make sure you re-qualify or you'll get one of those funny looking yellow helmet shields put on your helmet. That goes for us class B-1 guys too.

That's all this is , there ain't no more , so in closing Remember … Stay Well and Stay Safe.

Sincerely,
Ex-Chief Bob Jacoby
