Memorial Day has come and gone. Our Company's engine took first place in the annual inspection conducted by our neighboring fire department's Chiefs. From what I hear it wasn't even close. We “Blew them Away” and took the trophy. Congratulations go out to not only our Officers for staying on top of the clean-up, but to all the Company Members who turned out to do the work. Hopefully come next year we'll retain the trophy.

The “Ramp Party” that was held after the parade had the biggest attendance that I've seen in awhile and the cook for the day, Ed “Stormin Norman” Nau did some heck of a job, especially with his bar-b-q'd spare ribs.

4th Of July is just around the corner now and as usual the Company will be down at the annual Dee's garden sale. Tom Dee is one of our Company members and the Company always turns out to hand out refreshments. Our Company's “Chuck Wagon” (246-30) is all squared away and ready to roll for the event.

When Marty Beverly had to resign from the Department as he moved out of town we lost one of our Wardens. A special election was held at the June meeting and Ex-Captain Doug Tyers was elected to replace him. (For those who are not familiar with the OFD's Wardens, they are the Department's equivalent to Fire Police)

I heard from Former Chief Bob “Rube” Pfirmann the other day. His wife Connie is recovering after a nasty fall she took last April and is starting to get around a little better each day. Connie , from all of us at the Company , know you're in our thoughts and prayers and hope you continue with your recovery.

I hear that Tom Fanning and his family have moved from Garden City to a new home in St. James in Suffolk County . We wish Tom , Maureen and the boys lots of good luck and happiness in their new home.

The Circus will be coming back to Oceanside on July 24 th . and 25 th . after a couple of year's hiatus. The other Companies will be going in with us this year which should cut down a bit on the work that we'll have to do. Cole Brothers always does a great job with their performances and I know that quite a few of the town's people are looking forward to it.

On September 10 th . The Company is planning to take the Department bus and head up to the Firemen's Home in Hudson , NY to visit with Bob Preudhomme. We're hoping to make it a family outing this year and we usually make a short side trip over to Schoharie for a visit with Ex-Captain Phil Metzger and his wife Pam. They have an animal farm over there and I'm sure the kids would enjoy seeing and petting the animals.

Our 100 th . Anniversary is winding down and all those that attended the dinner had a great time. I hear there is still a 100 th year history book coming out.

I'll be heading up to the lake country of Canada for a few weeks of “F & H” time . For those that know me , that means Fishing and Hammock time and I guess I'll get into the town of Bracebridge a few times and visit with my buddies in the FD there. So if I don't get a chance to write another news item before the summer is over , I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable summer and remember as I always say “When you train, train like your life depends on it , because it just might”.

Sincerely,
Ex-Chief Bob Jacoby
