Boy, this month of May just flew by. Memorial Day has come and passed and all the hard work the members put in cleaning up the apparatus paid off as we took the trophy at the BEST APPEARING APPARATUS contest beating out the other five Companies. Before the parade, we responded to the Firemen's Field where we had our annual memorial service and then up to Merle Ave. School to have a Department picture taken similar to the one taken way back in 1936. (When it comes out we'll try to put it on our “picture” portion of this web site). The Company had a nice turn out for the parade having 23 of the members show up. Two of our “older” members, “Uncle Pete” Hendrickson and “Taters” Noon were on the sidelines cheering us on. It seemed like the community turned out a little more this year then in some previous years and the department received a nice ovation when ever we passed a crowd. After the parade we had our annual “ramp” party, but this year due to rain showers on and off, we had it on the truck floor. The Committee of Will Scheren , ” Rocky” Marciano , ”Giggles” Rahn , Nicole Maurer and Bob Zic , under the leadership of 2 nd . Lieutenant “ Pez ” Brennan did an outstanding job as this writer sat himself down in front of the clams. All that attended had a nice time and special thanks go out to Tom “Rabbit” Hendel's Mom for the cup cakes she made. They had to be good as my granddaughter finished off three and my grandson helped himself to two.

A bunch of congratulations go out this month to our soon to be graduates of Oceanside High School , Anthony Martini (our web master) and Tom Hendel . Anthony is off to C.W. Post College and Tom to Nassau Community College . (This will have them home on the weekends to make their calls) Also recently promoted Bill Leahy who had been assigned to the 4 th . Pct. as a Patrol Supervisor now has a new assignment. Bill was been made the Deputy Commanding Officer of the newly formed Security Police Information Network (SPIN) of the Nassau County Police Department, and will be off shortly to a stint in the F.B.I. Academy. I can envision “stars” on his shoulders before he retires.

At the June monthly meeting the Company voted to endorse Ex-Captain Pat Madden to be our candidate for the position of 3 rd . Assistant Chief of Department come December. I hear that there are two other candidates that will be pursuing this position also, one from Southside Hose 2 and one from Terrace Hose 3. Knowing Pat as I do, I believe we have an outstanding candidate for this position.

On Sunday, June 6 th , a few of us will be heading up to the Firemen's Home in Hudson , NY . Chief “Aldo” Pellegrino will be at the wheel and with the “Help of God and two Cops” we should make it in good shape. Pete Chiovitt will be bringing his camera so we should have some pretty nice pictures of our venture. We plan to tour the museum and some of the sights up there as well as visiting with Bob Preudhomme , who was a member of our Company for many years before retiring to Pennsylvania.

Well this will have to keep you all for a while, as the “bride” and I will be spending a few weeks up in Canada at my brother-in-laws “cottage” on Lake Muskoka . Hammock time and fishing should have me well rested up for our yearly stint at the 4 th of July sale at (Honorary Member) Tom Dee's.

So until next… Remember… Stay Well and Stay Safe.

Sincerely,
Ex-Chief Bob Jacoby
