At our December meeting, the company welcomed its newest member, Anthony Martini. Anthony comes from our Explorer Post where he held the positions of Financial Secretary and recently that of 2nd Lieutenant. He holds the rank of Eagle Scout and is also the webmaster of our company web page. Anthony's Dad is a member of Engine Company no. 3 of the Valley Stream Fire Department and his younger brother Mike was just elected to the position of 2 nd Lieutenant of the Explorer Post. We all wish Anthony a long, safe and distinguished career with the company. The department elections were held on December 4 th , and the following were elected :
Chief: Robert Bettes (Hose Co. 3) 1 st Assistant Chief: Sean Lynch (Engine Co. 1) 2 nd Assistant Chief: Thomas McDermott (Truck Co. 1) 3 rd Assistant Chief: Daniel Sabatino (Rescue Co. 1) We wish all these officers Good Luck for the upcoming year. Our Explorer post is moving along nicely and has been learning techniques in rope and water rescue from Post Advisor Reed Menz . The post also had a field trip into New York City where they visited with FDNY Rescue Company No. 3 which also has a collapse unit. Rescue 3's Lieutenant, Scott Maxwell, who is a former member of our company, gave the explorers quite a lesson in his company's operation. The explorers also had their elections and the results are as follows: Captain: Ryan Costigan 1 st Lieutenant: Tim Maxwell 2 nd Lieutenant: Mike Martini Secretary: Lauren Goldberg Financial Secretary: Brian Flaherty Sgt-at-arms: Kate Maxwell From the west coast, our former Chief Bob (Rube) Pfirmann keeps in contact with us quite often. Bob recently attended the funeral of a firefighter killed in the line of duty during the wild fires out in the San Diego area. Bob went in his OFD uniform and represented the Department.
