To start this month's news letter I'd like to start with a real nice “Feel Good” Holiday Season story. Our Honorary Member, Tom DiDominica of Dee's Nursery along with his sons, packaged up and sent 150 Christmas Trees over to our troops in Iraq . Now this has to be one of the nicest gifts that anybody could have thought of to support our Military serving over there.
A great big 70 th . HAPPY BIRTHDAY goes out to our former member Bob Preudhomme who is now a resident at the NYS Firemen's Home. Bob is the unofficial “mayor” up there and enjoys our visits when we get up to the Home as has been previously mentioned in other monthly news articles.
The Company elections were held this meeting and the Officers to lead us for 2005 are as follows :
Captain: John (JT) Madden
1 st . Lieutenant: Sean ( Pez ) Brennan
2 nd . Lieutenant: Will (Stone-face) Schieren
Other members elected:
Company Secretary: Anthony ( Radar) Dasaro
Ass't Co. Secretary: Robert G. (Sea Dog) Dawson
Ass't Co. Treasurer: James Garvey
Financial Secretary: Henry Emilio
Council Delegate (2 years): Thomas (Aldo) Pellegrino
Warden (2 years): Anthony Lussoro
Sgt-at-Arms: Nicole Maurer
Our new 2 nd . Lieutenant is the grandson of our former Captain Don Trueson , who was Captain way back in 1969. Don was a good firefighter as well as a good Captain. Will has “Good Genes” I'm sure he'll do an outstanding job.
The Department Elections were held on December
9 th , and the following were elected:
Chief: Sean Lynch (Engine Co.1)
1 st . Ass't Chief: Thomas McDermott (Truck Co.1)
2 nd .Ass't.Chief: Daniel Sabatino (Rescue Co.1)
3 rd .Ass't Chief: Timothy Biscay (Hose Co. 3)
Our own Anthony (Radar) Dasaro was elected Dept. Secretary
We wish ALL these Officers Good Luck for the upcoming year.
The Explorers also had their elections and the results are as follows :
Captain: Tim Maxwell
1 st . Lieutenant: Mike Martini
2 nd . Lieutenant: Ryan Dawson
Secretary: Lauren Goldberg
Financial Secretary: Mike ( Little Rock ) Marciano
Sgt. At Arms: (on hold for the Jan. 2005 meeting )
At our December meeting our newly elected 2 nd . Lt. Will (Stone-face) and 1 st . Lt. Sean ( Pez ) cooked a great meatloaf and baked potato dinner. Must have been good as I didn't notice any leftovers. Friday night December 10 th was our annual Christmas Party held this year at MacArther Park , followed Sunday by the Annual Children's Christmas party. This year instead of being held at the firehouse, it was held at FUN STATION along with Engine Co.1. Hot dogs, pizza, cup cakes, ice cream , Santa, presents and plenty of rides for all the kids . From the looks on their faces, I'm sure they all had a great time.
On a sad note, I must mention, that Ed Grim passed away recently. Ed wasn't a member of our Company. He belonged to Salamander Hook and Ladder Company and was a 64 year member of the Department. Ed's son Paul and grandson Todd were both Captains in his company which I know made him proud. The reason I mention Ed's passing is that he was my friend and we worked on several Department Committees together. Ed was also a retired Lieutenant from the Nassau County Police Department. Here, we worked and helped out each other too. I had the privilege to stand Honor Guard during his wake. I know that Ed Grim will be missed by his family, his fellow Company members and the Department, and he will be missed by me too. May God bless you and keep you in his House.
There should be some more pictures appearing on our picture page shortly. Pete Chiovitt has been putting them together for our webmaster, Anthony, who is doing a great job. Any of our members who have any “ tid bits” they would like to have on the News page, let me know and I'll add them.
In closing I would like to wish all our Members, past and present, a Very Happy and Healthy Holiday season, and as always…
Until next………. Remember….. Stay Well and Stay Safe.
Sincerely,
Ex-Chief Bob Jacoby
