WOW! I just noticed the date of my last update of the company news. Looks like I've been bad and I'm sorry that I haven't been keeping the updates current. Well I have a lot to report this time so hopefully this months report will make up for a lazy fall.

In the GOOD NEWS DEPARTMENT, Joe “Doc” Dasaro has been appointed to the Ambulance Bureau of the Nassau County Police Department. I know Joe has waited a long time for this appointment and I'm sure he'll be a top notch Paramedic with them. Joe is also enrolled in a Physicians Assistant program. I never want to be picked up by a NCPD Ambulance, but if I ever am, I sure hope Joe would be behind the wheel. Also to report our “ web master” Tony Martini is working his way thru C.W.Post College as an EMT on the Campus Ambulance.

This last month Tom “Rabbit” Hendel and Matt “ Jeezer ” Lewis completed their probationary period and shed their orange “ probie ” shields from their helmets. Congratulations and now we only have one “ probie ” in the Company.

We heard from one of our former members, Rob Spurlock. Rob's with the Norfork (VA.) FD assigned to their Rescue Company, and when ever he gets a chance he usually travels north with one or two of his fellow firefighters for a visit with his old crew. Rob and his wife Maria just had their second child so Congratulations go out to his family too. Rob's e-mail address is yankeebybirth@hotmail.com and I know he would enjoy hearing from you guys.

I received an e-mail from Former Chief Bob “Rube” Pfirmann last week. He had to undergo a bit of an operation, but he wrote me he's back home now and all went well , and a full recovery is expected.

Former Chief John Traverso had a slight heart attack the beginning of the month, and fortunately he called for Rescue right away. They got him into South Nassau quickly and there was a cardiologist there who took John right up and did two “stints” on him. When I got up to see John a few hours later he was looking as if nothing had ever happened and that's a good sign. John has to go back in to the Hospital after the first of the year for one more “stint” but I'm sure that will be successful too. John's up and around now and I know he's “chomping at the bit” to beat me into the front seat of Eng. 246.

We had our Company elections on December 6 th , and the results are as follows:

Captain ….……………… Sean “ Pez ” Brennen
1 st Lieutenant …………. John “JT” Madden
2 nd Lieutenant …………. Pete Chiovitt

Council Delegate 2Yrs .. John Traverso
Warden 2 Yrs ……......... Marty Beverly
Secretary ………………. Tony Dasaro
Asst. Secretary ……….... Bob “Sea Dog” Dawson
Asst. Treasurer ………... Jim Garvey
Financial Secretary ….... Henry Emilio
Sgt. At Arms …………… Nicole Maurer

As you see Capt. Pez and 1 st . Lt. JT just switched positions. The Captain is close to being appointed to the FDNY and JT thought he could help him out while he's in the Academy. Our new 2 nd . Lt. is not new to the fire service or our Company having close to 30 years in the FD. We are all sure Pete will have no problems with his new position, and I hope he will continue to take those great pictures for the Company in his “spare” time.

After the Company elections we had our annual Christmas dinner and I must say that Matt “ Jezzer ” Lewis did a fine job. I know , there wasn't anything left over to snack on the next day. Think we might have to anoint “ Jezzer ” with the title of “FIRST SPOON” of our kitchen cooks.

Our Company's Explorer Post 246 held its election December 5 th . And the results are as follows :

Captain ………………. Mike Martini
1 st . Lieutenant ………. Ryan Dawson
2 nd . Lieutenant ……… Lauren Goldberg
Secretary …………… Nick Marino
Financial Secretary … Mike “Pebbles” Marciano
Sgt. At Arms ……….. Robby Pav

Captain Martini's brother is our webmaster , Tony who is a graduate from the Explorer program as well as “Pebbles” Marciano's , brother “Rocky”. 1 st . Lieutenant Dawson will be a second generation member as both his Dad and brother are members of the Company.

The Department elections were held the following Thursday, December 8 th and the results are as follows :

Chief of Department ……….. Sean Lynch (Eng. Co. 1)
1 st . Asst. Chief ………………. Tom McDermott (Truck Co. 1)
2 nd .Asst. Chief ………………. Dan Sabatino (Rescue Co. 1)
3 rd .Asst. Chief ………………. Tim Biscay (Hose Co. 3 )
Dept. Secretary …………….. Tony Dasaro (Hose Co. 1)
Dept. Asst. Secretary ……… Axel Alfaro (Eng. Co. 1)
Dept. Treasurer ……………. Gary Fish (Eng. Co. 1)
Dept. Asst. Treasurer ……… Vin Calderone (Truck Co. 1)
2 nd . Battalion Delegate …….. Bob Bettes (Hose Co. 3 )

Finally elections concluded with the District's Fire Commissioner election on December 13 th . Commissioner Bill Lynch won re-election to another five year term. And the proposition to re-open the benefits portion of the Service Awards Program to those members over 60 who still make the required points passed.

Congratulations to ALL the winners of their respective elections.

Just found out today, that my Deputy Chief (back in my days as Chief) and good friend Doug Von Braunsberg took a spill Saturday December 17 th and broke his hip and pelvis. Those that know Doug know he's one of the nicest guys around and he was one heck of a good Fire Chief too.

So let's all say a little prayer for Doug and hope he gets on the mend and out of the Hospital in time for Christmas.

Well that's about it for this month. In closing I would like to wish all of you out there a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY, HEALTHY NEW YEAR
, so until my next …

Stay Well and Stay Safe and remember “When you train, train like your life depends on it , because it just might”.

Sincerely,
Ex-Chief Bob Jacoby
