January-February 2010 Well, I did it again. Last year I came up with only two news letters, and this year only one. I think it's time for this "old" guy to retire and get one of the younger guys to pick up the slack. Well time will tell. Much has happened in 2009. We have picked up two new members who have stepped up from our explorer program. Anthony (TJ) Lussoro Jr., who had been the Explorer's Captain and son of long time member Tony, followed a few months later by Leo Bonacasa. We welcome these two new members into our "brotherhood." We also had three members leave the company. Vicky Rahn resigned to pursue her schooling in Veterinarian Medicine and was placed on our Non Active roles as was George Serviss who moved out of the district. Joe Ornauer resigned from the company and department for personal reasons. Then with much sorrow, I must report that we had two long-time members who answered their final alarm. First, Tracy (Taters) Noon passed away at the age of 92 from "Old Age" and Honorary Captain Llyod "Uncle Pete" Hendrickson in fall of 2009 after a long battle with cancer. both of these men will be missed and never forgotten. In December of 2009, elections were held for the Officers that will lead us through 2010. The results are as follows:
The results of the Department election are as follows: Anthony McCarty was re-elected Fire Commissioner for a second five year term. I wish all of these officers a successful and safe year. Just as our last years Captain was starting his term in office, he was appointed to the NYC Police Academy. This kept "The Rock" pretty busy for most of his term as Captain and his Liutenants filled in very nicely for him. Now "Rocky" has graduated from the police academy and is keeping the streets of Queens safe. Our former member Bob Preudhomme, who now resides at the State Foremen's Home, is celebrating his birthday this month so we'll shout out a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Bob and we wish you many more! I keep hearing from former Chief Bob "Rube" Pfirmann that he and Connie are doing better now and that he keeps doing fire safety programs for the Manteca (CA) Fire Department. You can view an article about him here. I guess you just can't keep us "Old Fire Horses" down. Our Company sponsered Explorer Post 246 lost quite a few members to the department this past year, but at a company workshop the other night, I noticed some new faces, including the son of our Chief Patrick Madden and it looks like we'll have a nice group once again. Ex-Captain JT Madden seems to be our advisor to the Explorers this year and knowing JT as well as I do, I'm sure that he'll get them up and running like they used to.
